Your Second Life is Ready

There's a very interesting new story over at Popular Science which talks about how more and more real life companies are looking at, and coming in to virtual worlds as a place to do business.

I predict that in the next 5 years, there will be an enormous blur between what we might call the "real" world and virtual worlds. Current technology is able to place your 3-D avatar in a virtual world, and let you interact with other people using not only sight, but with the help of a mic and speakers you can TALK to and HEAR the other people also. But wait! There's already more! Engineers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan are building an odour recorder capable of recording and playing back smell. When these devices are hooked up to your virtual world environment, that will bring a WHOLE new level of interaction!

So, here in Second Life, we already see big institutions like Wells Fargo Bank, Walmart, American Express, Intel, and others either already getting actively involved in Second Life, starting to provide corporate training through the virtual world, or testing out ways to "set up shop".

Why NOT run a bank outlet in a virtual world? People could log in from anywhere, "teleport" to the place of business, speak with (and hear) a real person (bank teller) who might actually be employed from anywhere on the planet, and maybe even in their pajamas!

Bands are already starting to sell their music through virtual jukeboxes in-world, people are selling virtual hair, clothes, houses, cars for the enjoyment of other avatars, people are meeting and socializing in virtual space before meeting in person.... "this is what MySpace WANTS to be". There are even companies like Electric Sheep who are in the business of setting up other companies with what they need to get going in these virtual worlds.

With the move toward more outsourcing, and third world countries getting online, you should expect to see more and more of them "going to work" by hopping online and teleporting to their jobs. Perhaps with in the year, it may be you!

Reality is just a hologram

Just read another interesting article http://www.quantumbiocommunication.com/media/introduction-to-the-holographic-universe.html which includes this quote:

Put another way, there is evidence to suggest that our world and everything in it - from snowflakes to maple trees to falling stars and spinning electrons - are also only ghostly images, projections from a level of reality so beyond our own it is literally beyond both space and time.

This struck me for a few reasons.

1) My idea/view of our universe has been changing quite a bit over the last 5-6 years, and this article is very much in line with other things I've been reading. That alone helps better solidify these concepts.

2) Right now, mainstream science cannot adequately model some strange phenomena such as telepathy, precognition, being "one" with the universe, and psychokinesis (moving items with mind power). I'm hesitant to say these things happen because we're in a "hologram", but certainly SOMETHING strange is allowing us to interact with our universe in these ways.

3) The article points to research which suggests lucid dreaming might be us traveling/connecting to a parallel universe. I've read other things about lucid dreams which says some people have recognized they are consistent (going back many times you can see the same features)... as well as noticing the passage of time (return to the place a year later and most is the same, but old buildings taken down, and new ones put up).
4) The article mentions synchronicities where it's possible our thought processes are tied much more tightly to our reality than we might think. This is relevant to me since I've done a bit of reading about the power of our mind to create our own reality.. "What the Bleep Do We Know" is an awesome movie that discusses this also, as well as much of what Bruce Lipton talks about (I have a very interesting interview with him recorded).

Just thought all this was interesting enough to post. I think we should all be more interested in how our universe actually works. We've come a long way from thinking the earth was flat... the center of our universe... etc... however, I have a feeling we still don't even know the HALF of it!

Victory in Iraq !?

I really don't enjoy political blogs.
I don't want this to become a political blog.
This purpose of this blog is to get people to "use their brains" a bit more... gather information from wider sources and not to just accept the majority's "truth" about something.

Mostly this happens in science, as scientists TELL us what is fact about history or our current universe, but it seems that over the last several years we're seeing more of this force-fed 'truth' come out in our media... and probably about no topic so blatantly as with what's going on over there in the Middle East (especially Iraq).

The latest example is yesterday's victory! WHAT? Are you saying we should claim victory in Iraq? No, I'm not saying all is now roses over there, and more troubles lie ahead, but indeed it IS a victory that the 3rd free democratic elections took place in Iraq yesterday with barely any incident! After all, THAT is why we currently have troops over there! Yet, the media loves to bury any good news that comes out of Iraq. When there are bombings, it makes front page, but never do you hear about the schools getting set up AND allowing girls to attend, the hospitals, the booming stock exchange, the smiling, happy faces, signs of reconstruction, achievements in women's rights, and so much more.

Here's the link to a story from MSNBC titled "On election eve, optimism prevails in Iraq", in which Iraqi businessmen say "the war has been worth it", "Baghdad stock exchange, bustling with deals and dreams", "An average of $3 million in shares trades each day, 10 times the amount under Saddam Hussein." It also makes mention of Iraq's first radio station run by women, for women, and that more Iraqis blame their own government for the continuing violence there (because of lack of action) and less blame the US. The story DOES also point out that nearly 100% of them want US troops out (eventually), but can you blame them? If Americans became SO heated over our political differences that we started fighting among ourselves.... even to the point where other countries had to come in to help get a grip on the massive violence here, you BET almost every American would want those other countries out of here too! But, I see our roll more like an elder breaking up a fight between two young brothers. Just because the brother's want to beat each other up, doesn't mean the elder should keep from stopping the violence.

Here's a link to another MSNBC story title "Top Sunni willing to form coalition government" which talks about another victory, where the Sunni who boycotted the elections earlier this year, are now trying to work WITH the new system. They say "the election process succeeded" with 70% of 27 million people turning out to vote! And all the media has to say is how BAD we're messing things up over there? To ME it looks like our efforts have overthrown a dictator and are now making great progress toward achieving a democratically elected government over there! -- Where they are SO enthusiastic about it that they are blowing away the US in voter turnout. There's also mention of a statement put out by a jihadist group that said they did not believe in democracy, only God.

Here's a story from MSNBC titled "Taliban kill two in attack on Afghan school" where it talks about Taliban terrorists/guerrillas/insurgents killing kids in a school. It's interesting to point out that the reason they claim for doing this is because before the US overthrew the previous regime in 2001, girls were not allowed to be taught in school... and they (apparently) have decided it's a good thing to kill kids and burn schools in order to try to keep girls out of schools. If that wasn't bad enough, we have people here like Republican senator John McCain trying to pass legislation to go more easy on the detainees. Personally, I can't consciously agree with torture and my morals are right along with him in wanting to make laws which try to force actions against torture, but at the same time, if I had captured one of these people who just killed 5 kids in a school close to where MY kids go, and he might know more information on other upcoming attacks on schools in my area, then I might very well put aside my feelings of "compassion" and let water drip in his eyes until he tells me everything he knows! I am just about at the point of ripping out all my hair when I hear about people wanting to be even nicer to these type of people who have no problems blowing up women and children... and even worse... doing it because they are "fighting" to keep girls out of schools! And we have Americans sticking up for these people?! GRRrrr

I certainly don't agree with everything Bush is doing. If asked "Do you think Bush should start doing a better job?"... I'd have to say YES!
While keeping in mind I do agree with what he's trying to do on at least some positions. Tucker Carlson seems to be quite a bit more anti-Bush. Yet, in his recent story titled "What if Bush is right about Iraq?", even he mentions the massive oversight in mainstream media and under reporting of the successful election in Iraq. Of course, he gives no credit to Bush for any future success, but does say that (despite the Bush fumbling) if Iraq does come out of this a better, stronger and more free country, then the media will most likely take a huge hit -- seeing as how "we'll [the media] have underplayed a huge story." If they KNOW they are not reporting this kind of good news... then I have to ask WHY? My first thought would have to be because of some motive or agenda.... there's something to gain from not reporting the good news?!

I really don't like how Jim Maceda writes his news. He is obviously one of these reporters who LOOKS for the bad, and even tries to add a negative feel in a story about good news. A recent example is his story "Signs of reconstruction in Iraq" which sounds like a good headline.. but his opening paragraph is "Almost three years after the invasion, U.S. military officials say they are finally starting to deliver on old promises to rebuild Iraq." ... which certainly seems to try to give the impression that NOTHING was done for the first 3 years after an "invasion"... and only NOW are we just starting to give what we promised. This is just a flat out lie... as evidence can EASILY be found where much progress has been made in many parts of the country before this last month, and with regards to our "help in overthrowing a vicious dictator and helping to establish a democratic Iraq" (as opposed to the negative word "invasion") our promise of such can be seen even right from the first day of such efforts. Aside from all that bull, his story does manage to give some good news stating that because of our "invasion", "the average Iraqi salary has increased 100 times, from $2 to $200 a month. Unemployment has been halved from 60 percent to 30 percent. And more than 33,000 new small businesses have been created." One bakery/business owner says hundreds of people are now spending money, "They couldn't buy my cakes before the war."

With all this progress and great stuff happening you'd think we'd hear more about it in our news media... ESPECIALLY since we have such a huge amount of our federal dollars going to support the efforts in Iraq!! Every day we see the price we pay in American lives, American dollars, etc. WHAT THE HELL AM I GETTING FOR MY MONEY?? FOR MY SON'S LIFE??? If someone forces me to give them my money (TAKEN from me in taxes), and tells me they're going to do something good with it, I damn well want to see what they are doing with my money! And you bet I'm going to be pissed off if I see or feel nothing good has come of it. No WONDER so many people are pissed about "the war in Iraq"... all they see and hear is how much it's costing. This is the day after the successful Iraqi elections... a victory step toward our PURPOSE in being there - to help secure a democratic government.... part of our "earning" for this high cost we are paying!! ... but what makes the front page of the Washington Post and New York Times?? Go take a look! The TOP story on each is about "Bush allowing domestic eavesdropping"... Well, OF COURSE it's anti-Bush! Media fumbles over itself to make Bush look bad TOP priority! But, what else? ... Patriot Act, Chinese Protest, Google, Katrina(!?!), Improper Practices of College Exec.... At this rate we're going to soon have total victory and Americans will still be saying "HEY?! How did that happen? Just yesterday (and for the past 4 years) we've been getting our butts kicked?!"

I'm just sick of it. "The earth is flat".... "The earth is the center of the universe"..... "getting to the moon is impossible".... "nothing can be smaller than an atom"..... "We have no business getting involved in the war in Europe(WWII) ..... "Our mission in Iraq is a failure.. we should not be there"... only years later can we see that we should NOT have just automatically believed what the masses were telling us... Even millions of people can be wrong! And have hidden agendas.

Personally, I don't care what got us over in to Iraq in the first place.. nor do I put much weight on the relatively few bad things that have taken place... If our presence over there now leaves Iraq in a place where the people have freedom... to vote... to choose their religion and to express themselves without fear of death.... for women to have equal rights and able to attend school.... to chose a career and motivation for success... then I feel it will all be WELL worth it. Most people who live in America now are SO happy that the American Revolution was fought almost 250 years ago. That France, Spain and the Netherlands joined to fight against the British and German troops. And now no one really says that the tens of thousands of Americans deaths (alone) were not worth it.... or that anyone wishes to take back those 8 horribly years of so much fighting and death.

Our media..... just something more to think about.... or perhaps give less thought. They are now the masses telling us earth is flat.

Alternate Reality Created = Media Cover-Up

Day after day we hear in the news how many people died in Iraq today. No doubt it's not a very safe place to be right now. At this time we have about 140,000 troops over there. Last night I heard 10 died. That leaves 139,990 over there doing SOMETHING today! What are they all doing?

I really don't care if you think we should be over there or not. That is not what this blog is about. This blog is about education. Hopefully helping more people to pull their heads out of the sand, and search for the truth. Even if almost every scientist, politician, news reporter, celebrity, etc is agreeing on some "fact", it still might not actually be the truth, or accurate.

I'm not over there myself. Thankfully most of us are not. But I DO get curious as to what (if any) good is being accomplished. Any time something bad happens or people die, there is no shortage of news reporting about it, but is anything good happening? Or is it REALLY all bad?

I wish I had a direct line to the troops myself. How many are saying bad things? How many are saying good thing? Is the news media leaving stuff out on purpose?

TODAY MY WISH HAS COME TRUE !

Someone posted a link on Digg to a site called MilBlogging.com which is a site that links to other military blogs! I have not checked out very many, but seems like a great resource! After following a few more links I came across a news story on Media Cover-Up, which really bothered me. A couple quotes are:
  • many press types. "They didn't want to talk to us." Why? I asked. "Because we were gung-ho for the mission."
  • members of the press were reluctant to photograph Iraqis laughing, giving the thumbs up sign, or cheering.

  • two Marines pushed and pulled by hand they could get the thing turning to give rides to the children of the Iraqi employees. They did so for hours on end. A photographer from a large American media company watched impassively. "Why don't you take a picture of this?" demanded one Marine. The photographer snorted, "That's not my job."

Read the whole thing yourself.

Perhaps we can't trust all Republicans because they are trying to stay in power, but in that same way we can't trust all Democrats because they are trying to get in to power. With Party Politics having such a strong foothold here in the States it's hard to know who might be telling the full truth, mostly the truth, little truth, or no truth. So it was rather amazing to hear Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman come out and give such praise of the efforts in Iraq as accounted here after coming back from his 4th visit. A couple of choice quotes are:

  • setting an artificial timetable would discourage our troops because it seems to be heading for the door. It will encourage the terrorists. It will confuse the Iraqi people.
  • the number of Iraqis who desire civil government (27 million) compared to the 'roughly 10,000' terrorists or other rejectionists in Iraq.
  • 'about two-thirds' of the country is in 'pretty good shape.'

And makes further observations about how the media has down-played certain stories while overblowing others. Again, read it here: The Iraq Story You Haven't Heard.

Norman Podhoretz has an interesting commentary called Who Is Lying About Iraq?
Where he points out a few things such as:

  • With regards to Bush's "lie" about WMD: The intelligence agencies of Britain, Germany, Russia, China, Israel, and 'yes' France all agreed [there were WMDs]... and a LONG list of specific people, including quotes from Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John Kerry.
  • The British government had intelligence from several different sources indicating that this visit [to Africa/Nigeria] was for the purpose of acquiring uranium. Since uranium constitutes almost three-quarters of Niger's exports, the intelligence was credible.
  • the Senate Intelligence Committee as having lied about the forged documents

There are tons more examples of media NOT reporting things and misreporting things. As I find them I'll post them in the comments section. You feel free to post things as well. Again, this is not about "Good Bush" or "Bad Bush" ... this is about the MEDIA molding our perception of what is going on over there, rather than giving us ALL the information and letting us make up our minds, so ANYTHING you find the media not reporting on is good stuff.

As far as some military blogs, you might want to check out these:

A full list of Military blogs are here. This is a great start to seeing what is really going on over there.

What is MOST troubling to me is that people can onlintelligenteligent decisions about things when they have as much information as possible, and it seems rather obvious we aren't getting some that IS available, but is not being reported..... on purpose?!

Global Warming - the SUN is to blame?!

Well, in the news today I heard a blurb about the sun getting hotter over the past "couple" years, and this was a major cause of global warming. I decided to do some of my own research. A quick Google search for "sun getting hotter" sure does pull up a lot of reference pages!

One of my favorite quotes is:
"Perhaps we are devoting too many resources to correcting human
effects on the climate without being sure that we are the major
contributor."

Taken from THIS report.

THIS report suggests that increased solar irradiance could add another 20%(!) to the rate earth is warming, AND that this is a natural cycle. It also points out that global warming due to burning fossil fuels is not universally accepted by scientist.

THIS report makes a comment about the sun "not being normal", although I'm not sure we've really been studying the sun long enough to be sure what normal truly is. It goes on to say the Mars polar cap has shrunk over the last 3 years releasing more carbon dioxide (greenhouse gases). To be fair, there is a GREAT interview with Sallie Baliunas further down where she says it's not likely the sun is the cause of the Martian pole melting, but then says Martian climate is "poorly understood", so who knows.

There is an interesting CO2 chart on the previous link which charts global temperature (supposedly) for the last 600 million years. Doesn't seem much change in the "pattern" of the temp, but the CO2 levels were 10 times higher back then?! It also mentions an ice age which caused 60% of all marine invertebrate to go extinct... I wonder what that would mean to if 60% of our species became extinct. I bet "life" would go on. Sounds like we're in a 10,000yr "warm" cycle that is about to go to 100,000yr glacial period. Fun.

I also tried to do a search for "sun NOT getting hotter", but didn't find any pages. If anyone has anything like that, I'd be interested.

Dating methods wrong again?

Following our trend of pointing out scientists could often be wrong, yet believed for a long time.... Here is an interesting story where they supposedly found a 40,000 yr old footprint that shouldn't be where it was found that far back. OH! WAIT! after dating it again they find it's 1.3 MILLION years old! Hmmm.. ya know.. on second thought this is a "public place" where people walk quite often these days... perhaps it's just a cow or person and only a few years old.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,177218,00.html

This is just silly... they are using dating systems that we are suppose to
be trusting for OTHER things they date? And they can't determine if it's 40,000, 1.3 million, or just few years old? Perhaps they shouldn't have said anything until they decided WHEN the footprint was possible, and then made sure the dating mechanisms just confirmed their "expected" date?

I've looked in to this in the past. There is HUGE debate both for and against almost all dating methods. The conclusion I finally came to was that there was no really way to know for sure if the dating methods are truly accurate or not.

Global warming not all bad

All you hear in the news is how BAD global warming is going to be for everyone, but it seems there is a cover-up of the positive side to global warming!
